Research Priorities for Coastal Geoscience and Engineering: A Collaborative Exercise in Priority Setting From Australia

We present the result of a collaborative priority setting exercise to identify emerging issues and priorities in coastal geoscience engineering (CGE). use ranking process quantify criticality each from perspective Australian CGE researchers practitioners. 74 activities were identified across seven categories: Data Collection Collation, Coastal Dynamics Processes, Modelling, Engineering Solutions, Hazards Climate Change, Communication Collaboration, Infrastructure, Innovation, Funding. found consistent unanimous support for vast majority by community, with 91% being allocated score ? 3 out 5 (i.e., above average levels support) 75% respondents. Collation received highest score, significantly higher than four other six categories, Change second ranked category Solutions lowest scoring category. Of identified, 11 unified strong community indicate critical need for: additional data collection including topographic bathymetric, hydrodynamic, oceanographic, remotely sensed data; improved compilation access; understanding extreme events quantification future impacts climate change on nearshore dynamics development; enhanced shoreline inundation processes; and, funding research applications mitigate manage hazards.
